Mr. Marquand

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many claims for compensation under the provisions of Section 14 (4) of the Iron and Steel Act, 1949, were received by the Corporation appointed under that Act; in how many instances compensation was paid; and what was the total amount of such compensation.

Mr. Erroll

One claim was received: compensation of £2¼ million was paid by the Iron and Steel Corporation of Great Britain in June, 1953, to the Finance Corporation for Industry, Ltd., for cancellation of option rights.
