HL Deb 05 February 1959 vol 213 cc1262-4WA
LORD CRAIGMYLE

asked Her Majesty's Government who are the members of the United Kingdom National Commission for U.N.E.S.C.O. and whether they are appointed as being representative of particular bodies or interests.

VISCOUNT HAILSHAM

I am sending the noble Lord a list of the members of the United Kingdom Committee of the National Commission which includes the Chairmen of the various special committees which are at present comprised within the Commission itself. Most members of the National Commission represent organisations and institutions, but some are appointed in a personal capacity.

LORD CRAIGMYLE

asked Her Majesty's Government whether it is intended to reconstitute the United Kingdom National Commission for U.N.E.S.C.O. and, if so, whether they would be willing to receive representations on the subject from interested bodies.

VISCOUNT HAILSHAM

It is proposed to reconstitute the United Kingdom National Commission for U.N.E.S.C.O. mainly in order to reduce the burden of committee work on its members. The general principles of such a reorganisation were approved by the main Advisory Committee of the National Commission itself on 2nd July last. My right honourable friend would certainly be willing to consider representations from interested bodies.

House adjourned at eighteen minutes before eight o'clock.
