HC Deb 05 February 1959 vol 599 c116W
108. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations, in view of the increased raising of cattle in Bechuanaland and its export to this country, what recent consultations have taken place with a view to the encouragement and continued extension of this trade to the benefit of both Bechuanaland and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Alport

Her Majesty's Government welcome all Commonwealth contributions to our meat supplies. Consultations have taken place between the exporters of the beef processed by the Colonial Development Corporation in the Bechuanaland Protectorate and importers in this country, and shipments amounting to about 1,000 tons either have reached or shortly will reach this country.
