HC Deb 05 February 1959 vol 599 c126W
Mr. Knox Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make an interim statement on the progress which has been made with regard to the draft convention on the compulsory third-party insurance of motor vehicles arising out of Opinion No. 29 (1958) of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Mr. R. Allan

No progress has been made in the Council of Europe with regard to the draft European Convention on Compulsory Insurance against Civil Liability in respect of Motor Vehicles. When the subject was discussed at the 64th meeting of Ministers' Deputies in November last, several delegations stated that the Convention was still being studied by their Governments. The Deputies therefore decided to consider it again at a future meeting. It is expected that it will be placed on the agenda of the 69th meeting of Ministers' Deputies, which will be held in March.
