Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for Air the difference in range and capability of the proposed T.S.R.2 and the Avro Vulcan B, Mk. 2, equipped with the Avro stand-off bomb.

Mr. Ward

The Vulcan is a long-range, high-altitude strategic bomber. The T.S.R.2 will be a tactical strike and reconnaissance aircraft, designed for shorter ranges. It will be much faster and capable of operating at low levels and of using small airfields with rudimentary surfaces.
