asked the Minister of Labour if he will state the percentage rates of unemployment for the Greenock and Port Glasgow area at the most convenient dates in December and January.

8.3 per cent. on 8th December, 1958, and 8.6 per cent. on 12th January, 1959.

asked the Minister of Labour if he will state, for the most convenient date in January, the number of wholly unemployed persons on the registers of the Greenock Employment Exchange in respect of duration of unemployment.

On 12th January, 1959, out of a total of 2,827 wholly unemployed persons registered at Greenock Employment Exchange, 464 had been unemployed for two weeks or less, 562 for between two and eight.
