HC Deb 03 February 1959 vol 599 cc43-4W
94. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware of the growing disquiet in the Island of Malta; what is the cause of it; and what new steps are being taken to prevent it growing to unmanageable proportions.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I am aware of what is being done in Malta to stimulate and organise resistance to H.M.G.'s policy for the islands, but I have every confidence that the good sense of the Maltese people will prevent the consequences that the hon. Member fears. On the last part of this Question, I have nothing to add to what was said by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary and myself in yesterday's debate on the Second Reading of the Malta (Letters Patent) Bill.
