§ Mr. Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the fact that ever since 1951 Her Majesty's Government have declared their policy as being to reduce the cost of living, improve the purchasing value of the £ sterling, reduce rent and rates, and generally to take steps to double the people's standard of living in the next 25 years, to what extent these objectives have been achieved.
Mr. AmoryThe record of Government economic policy and of its results in recent years have been fully dealt with in Parliamentary debates on a number of occasions. I am satisfied that steady progress is continuing.
