HC Deb 03 February 1959 vol 599 c44W
95. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many trade union officials, political party officials and teachers have had their certificate of citizenship withdrawn by the Singapore Government; and what were the chief reasons for the withdrawal.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I am informed by the Singapore Government, in whose competence this matter lies under the Singapore Citizenship Ordinance, 1957, that in all 1,220 provisional registrations have been withdrawn, but that it is not possible to say how many of these were trade union officials, political party officials or teachers. In view of this explanation, the second part of the Question does not arise.
