§ 1. Mr. G. M. Thomsonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what instructions are given to the Ordnance Survey authorities regarding requests for changes of place names in ordnance survey maps by local landowners.
§ Mr. GodberSurveyors of the Ordnance Survey have instructions to consult competent authorities, e.g. local authorities, societies concerned with place names, prominent local residents, etc. before accepting any changes in the names of localities which are not entirely in private ownership. For the names of areas, objects, and buildings owned by private individuals or by private and public companies or corporations, authority is obtained from the owners, managers or authorised agents of the properties concerned.
§ 2. Mr. G. M. Thomsonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what changes there have been since 1939 in the copyright fees charged to commercial map-making firms for the use of ordnance survey maps.
§ Mr. GodberThese fees were increased by about 50 per cent. in 1951 and by about a further 40 per cent. in 1958.
§ 3. Mr. G. M. Thomsonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will state for each financial year from 1955–56 to 1958–59 the cost of printing and publication of ordnance survey maps.
§ Mr. GodberThe cost of printing and publishing ordnance survey maps and plans was £218,200 in 1955–56, £231,100 in 1956–57 and £242,200 in 1957–58. The figures for 1958–59 will not be available until after the close of the financial year.
