HC Deb 02 February 1959 vol 599 cc20-1W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs, in view of the fact that many much taller buildings are now being projected than were contemplated when the model byelaws were prepared, if he will set up a committee to give guidance as to the most economic different heights, together with the essential regulations the different heights require, such as have beneficially existed for many years in the United States of America.

Mr. Bevins

It is not for my right hon. Friend to give guidance to developers on the economics of high building generally, but the Department's recent publication "Flats and Houses, 1958" gives local authorities guidance about the economics of high buildings for housing purposes. Work on revising the Department's present model building byelaws will start soon and the much increased height of some building will be borne in mind during the revision.
