HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 c255W
Mr. Randall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to what extent Her Majesty's Government has complied with the Council of Europe's Recommendation 207 on the refugee situation in Austria, in view of the occasion of World Refugee Year.

Mr. R. Allan

Her Majesty's Government have so far responded to the Council of Europe's Recommendation No.207, on the refugee situation in Austria in the following ways:

With regard to paragraph 1 of the Recommendation they are at present considering a request from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Her Majesty's Government have complied with paragraph 2 of the Recommendation. Some of the refugees referred to by my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary in replying to the Question from my hon. Friend the Member for Lewisham, North, on the 30th October, are coming to this country from Austria.

As I indicated in my reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Bristol, North-East on 30th November, Her Majesty's Government support paragraph 3 of the Recommendation. They continue to attach the greatest importance to the programme of the High Commissioner for Refugees.
