HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 cc218-9W
Sir O. Prior-Palmer

asked the Minister of State for Commonwealth Relations what help his Department is giving in the current financial year to Commonwealth Governments, by way of military assistance.

Mr. Alport

Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom are already providing assistance in cash and kind towards the expansion of the Armed Forces of the Federation of Malaya, and have been providing free training in the United Kingdom for a number of Pakistani technicians and Service personnel over a period of three years. In addition, it has now been decided to offer a further measure of help in respect of training and technical assistance for members of the Armed Forces of Commonwealth Governments; and in respect of the loan and interchange of Service personnel, including the cost, as necessary, of passages arising therefrom.

A Supplementary Estimate will be presented in due course and the Civil Contingencies Fund will be drawn on if necessary.
