HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 c237W
Mr. Eden

asked the Minister of Health when he will make it possible for Bournemouth residents suffering from mental illness to be examined, first, at a reception centre in Bournemouth and subsequently, if necessary, to be treated at a hospital nearer Bournemouth.

Mr. Walker-Smith

Psychiatric outpatient sessions are held in the Bournemouth area and they have recently been increased to eight a week. The Wessex Regional Hospital Board is reviewing the existing facilities for mental hospital treatment in the region, including a review of catchment areas, with the object where practicable of reducing the distance patients and their relations have to travel.
