asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the statement made by the Acting British Resident at the opening of the Thirty-Fourth Session of the Zanzibar Legislative Council had his approval; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend was not consulted before the Acting British Resident made his speech to the Legislative Council; but I have since read it. I am sure my right hon. Friend would endorse what was said.

I have no further statement to make at present.
