HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 c220W
91. Sir A. V. Harvey

asked the Minister of Education, as representing the Minister for Science, if he will undertake to pay the amount outstanding in respect of the Jodrell Bank Experimental Station.

Sir D. Eccles

No. The circumstances in which Her Majesty's Government arrived at their decision that the grant of£130,000 in 1957, making a total of£360,000 in all must be their final contribution to the cost of the radio-telescope were fully explained to the House by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works in the Adjournment Debate on 4th March, 1959. My noble Friend knows of no fresh circumstances which would justify a reconsideration of this decision.
