HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 c258W
126. Sir T. Moore

asked the Minister of Defence whether, in view of Scottish anxiety and the representations received from the recent deputation to the Prime Minister, he will now announce, before the recess, the decision of Her Majesty's Government in regard to the choice of the Scottish-designed Pegasus aircraft for use by the Army Air Corps.

Mr. Watkinson

After careful consideration of all the circumstances, it has been decided that the needs of the Army can be met best by providing it with the Beaver aircraft. Accordingly, it is proposed to open negotiations for the purchase of this aircraft.

I should add, however, that the Ministry of Aviation have been authorised to negotiate with Scottish Aviation Ltd., for a small additional order for Prestwick Twin Pioneer aircraft for the Royal Air Force. The Royal Canadian Air Force has also confirmed its intention of continuing to use the company for its aircraft repair and maintenance work.
