HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 c235W
116. Mr. Robens

asked the Minister of Aviation whether his attention has been drawn to the all-party motion carried unanimously by the Northern Ireland House of Commons relating to the serious employment position at Short Brothers and Harland, Belfast, and requesting assistance from the Government of the United Kingdom; what action he proposes to take in this regard; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Sandys

I am aware of the motion referred to by the right hon. Member. I have already assured the Minister of Commerce for Northern Ireland that I well recognise the importance of the aircraft industry in the economy of Ulster and that this will be taken fully into account in any decision regarding the reorganisation of the aircraft industry in the United Kingdom as a whole.
