HC Deb 17 December 1959 vol 615 cc203-4W
13. Mr. Pargiter

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what opportunities will be given to Africans selected for training at Victoria Falls power station as shift attendants or to other Africans in Northern Rhodesia selected for training as engineers.

Mr. J. Amery

Two African learner electricians and two trade tested African electricians were sent to the Victoria Falls power station earlier this year for training as shift attendants. They will be posted in that capacity to one of the new hydro-electric stations being built in the Northern Province.

Other Africans will receive similar training when suitable recruits come forward.

No training facilities for either Africans or Europeans to qualify as engineers exist in Northern Rhodesia.
