asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the concern felt by local authorities in Fife at the declining employment opportunities for school-leavers in coal-mining districts; what steps he proposes to take in the

exchanges, respectively; and if he will publish a table giving the unemployment figures according to trades and occupations.

I am aware that the increase in unemployment among young persons, particularly in the coal-mining areas of West Fife, has been causing concern, though the great majority of school-leavers have been placed without undue delay. I understand that the National Coal Board expects to increase its intake of boys in Fife in the coming year.
