Mr. Warbey

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will give a list, with dates, of applications to the Council of Western European Union for revision of the Brussels Treaty protocols restricting the manufacture of armaments by Western Germany, showing which applications have been approved, with dates, and which are still pending.

The Federal Republic of Germany has made three requests to the Council of Western European Union for amendment to its undertakings given in the revised Brussels Treaty on the manufacture of armaments.

The Treaty has consequently been amended as follows:

Amendment to paragraph IV of Annex III to Protocol III:

"(e) guided anti-tank missiles are also regarded as excluded from this definition".

Amendment adopted by Resolution of the Council of 9th May, 1958.

Amendment to paragraph V of Annex III to Protocol III:

The words "with the exception of a training ship of 4,800 to 5,000 tons displacement" shall be added to paragraph V (a).

Amended by Resolution of the Council of 16th October, 1958.

Paragraph IV (d) of Annex III to Protocol III is replaced by the following text:

"(d) Proximity fuses and surface-to-air and air-to-air guided missiles for anti-aircraft defence are regarded as excluded from this definition".

Amended by Resolution of the Council of 21st October, 1959.

The Council have received no other requests for the revision of the Treaty.
