§ 71. Mr. P. Browneasked the Minister of Transport if he will give a general direction to the British Transport Commission to publish their accounts on a regional basis, and to ensure that they are further broken down to show separate figures for freight and passenger traffic.
§ Mr. MarplesThe British Transport Commission already publish detailed statistics of receipts from passengers and freight originating in each region and of operating costs. They have given a good deal of thought to regional accounts but there are considerable practical and other difficulties. Unless and until these can be overcome I do not think that I could consider giving directions in this matter.
