HC Deb 15 December 1959 vol 615 c121W
56. Mr. Willis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take urgent steps to double the rate of slum clearance in Scotland.

Mr. T. G. D. Galbraith

Responsibility for slum clearance operations has been placed by Parliament on local authorities. Their proposals for the three years 1959–61 have not yet all reached by right hon. Friend, but the indications are that they plan to deal with an average of 12,000 unfit houses a year. This compares with an average of 9,000 houses a year dealt with in the previous three years.
