§ 115. Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that trained Nyasalanders who have made a contribution to the life of the universities and other institutions for further education in Great Britain and other Commonwealth countries continue to be detained indefinitely in Southern Rhodesia; and if he will take steps to have them brought to trial or released from detention in conformity with the aims of the Commonwealth Education Conference at Oxford.
§ Mr. J. AmeryThe release of detainees is a matter for the Governor of Nyasaland, and no one is detained any longer than is essential to the maintenance of 143W public order in the territory. The question of bringing detainees to trial is a matter for the Attorney-General of Nyasaland.
