HC Deb 15 December 1959 vol 615 c125W
62. Mr. Mathew

asked the President of the Board of Trade for what reason Her Majesty's Government have so far failed to send a representative to the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on the production and marketing of vinous products.

Mr. Erroll

Although the Committee's remit covers matters connected with the production and marketing of wines and spirits, its main concern seems likely to be with the question of warranties of origin, especially for wines. In this our traditional legal approach and our interest as importers are somewhat different from those of European producers, and I do not think that any contribution that we might make to the Committee's work would be particularly helpful.
