asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what further constitutional advance he has in mind for Tanganyika.

The Governor has today announced, with the approval of Her Majesty's Government, that unofficial majorities will be introduced into both the Council of Ministers and the Legislative Council after the next elections in the autumn of 1960.

My right hon. Friend proposes that the precise structure of the Executive Government in its new form and related matters should be discussed at meetings to be held in London in the spring of 1960.

The Governor also announced decisions on the recommendations of the Ramage Committee on other constitutional and electoral matters.

I have arranged for copies of the Governor's speech, the Ramage Committee's Report and the despatches thereon exchange between the Governor and my right hon. Friend to be placed in the Library.
