§ 123. Mr. Fletcherasked the Minister of Works whether he is aware that, despite a notice of intention issued by his Department to schedule the Wish Tower at Eastbourne as an ancient monument, contractors have been engaged to proceed with the demolition of the building; and what steps he is proposing to take in the matter.
§ Lord John HopeCertain work at the Wish Tower had been done before the notice scheduling the monument was issued on 9th November, 1959. Part of the mound surrounding the moat had been removed and the wall of the moat had been breached before that date. There was no intention to demolish the tower.
My officers have now examined the details of the work which has still to be done and I am satisfied that it will not injuriously affect the tower.
