HC Deb 14 December 1959 vol 615 cc116-7W
121. Mr. Teeling

asked the Minister of Aviation whether, in view of the efforts being made in Russia and the United States of America to develop man-powered aircraft, of the investigations being carried out in the United Kingdom by the man-powered aircraft group of the Royal Aeronautical Society and of the offer of a£5,000 prize by Mr. Henry Kremer for a first successful flight within the British Commonwealth, he will consider making a Government grant to an institution such as a university or aeronautical college to further research and development in this field.

Mr. Sandys

Mr. Kremer's generous offer will undoubtedly provide added stimulus to these projects, but I am not satisfied that a grant of public money is justified.
