HC Deb 14 December 1959 vol 615 cc89-90W
5. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that, although two consignments of apples from the Lebanon have been condemned by the health authorities at Avonmouth docks during the past month on the grounds of their arsenical content as a result of being sprayed with arsenic, all the apples have been returned to the importers at Southampton Docks; and if he will take every precaution to ensure that these will not be distributed to the public.

Miss Pitt

I am advised that only one consignment, which was imported through Southampton, was involved. All the apples returned to Southampton have been re-exported.
