HC Deb 14 December 1959 vol 615 c105W
92. Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is aware that among produce converted to end-use specifications by Forestry Commission labour last year, the highest percentage was pulpwood and boardwood material; and what steps he is taking to encourage the building of more pulpmills and boardmills based upon the use of home-grown timber.

Mr. John Hare

Industrialists are well aware of the fact that production from British forests will rise sharply within the next few years, and of the opportunity this will bring for the establishment of new mills and factories. The Forestry Commission is always anxious to help anyone who wishes to have information or advice on volumes or specifications. As my hon. Friend is aware, one of the objects of the re-organised Associations of Woodland Owners is to encourage the development of additional markets.
