§ 96. Mr. Jannerasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in view of this year's excellent harvest and the need to reduce prices wherever possible, if he will seek powers, by price control or otherwise, to reduce the present high price of bread.
§ Mr. John HareNo. This year's harvest was certainly good. A good harvest in this country, however, does not of itself produce a substantial reduction in the cost of making bread, since the price of bread grains is determined by world supplies of which home production forms a relatively small percentage. Price control would be neither appropriate nor desirable.
