HC Deb 14 December 1959 vol 615 cc98-9W
73. Mr. Chetwynd

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what representations he has made to the Argentine Government as to the reasons why the British Overseas Airways Corporation's Comet, on a proving flight to South America, was refused permission to land at Buenos Aires on 9th December and, in consequence, had to return to Montevideo.

Mr. R. Allan

Her Majesty's Ambassador in Buenos Aires has reported that the incident was the result of an administrative misunderstanding between the local airline representatives and the Argentine aviation authorities, in consequence of which the airport did not receive the necessary clearance authority in time.

The hon. Member will no doubt have heard than on its return flight the Comet landed at Buenos Aires airport.
