HC Deb 10 December 1959 vol 615 cc59-60W
Mr. John Hall

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to what extent television services are provided in Kenya which may be received in other African countries; and what current proposals he has for providing such services.

Mr. J. Amery

There is at present no television service in Kenya. A commission appointed by the Government of Kenya is now sitting. Its terms of reference are "to examine and report to the Kenya Government on the advantages and disadvantages of a television service in Kenya, the ways and means of introducing such a service and measures required therefor, with an estimate of the costs". Such a service, if established, would not in any event reach other territories, and no proposals are meanwhile in prospect for providing a service elsewhere in British African dependencies.
