asked the Minister of Education how recruitment to courses of initial teacher training this autumn compared with that of 1955 and that of 1958.

The number entering training colleges and university departments of education in 1959 was 20,046, compared with 18,191 in 1958 and 15,264 in 1955. The details are given below. The entry this year was the highest ever, and I am glad to take this opportunity of congratulating all the training establishments on these good results.
