HC Deb 10 December 1959 vol 615 cc62-3W
73. Lord Balniel

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the number of qualified and the number of unqualified teachers, respectively, employed on the teaching staffs of approved schools.

Mr. R. A. Butler

There are 489 qualified and 12 unqualified teachers employed in classroom teaching in approved schools. In addition, there are 342 instructors employed in practical trade training. Of these, 83, the majority of whom are employed for such subjects as sewing and dressmaking, do not possess a recognised professional qualification.
