HC Deb 09 December 1959 vol 615 cc45-6W
63. Mr. Goodhart

asked the Minister of Transport what action he proposes to take to increase the number of qualified traffic engineers in this country.

Mr. Marples

Better career prospects and more training facilities are the key to increasing the supply of traffic engineers. I am seeking the co-operation of highway and local authorities in widening the field of employment of these experts. I am glad to observe that the numbers of post-graduate courses and fellowships at universities has recently been notably increased and that professional institutions are offering diplomas in this subject; this should stimulate more courses at technical colleges.
