§ THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR WELSH AFFAIRS (LORD BRECON)Permission for the erection of the new United States Embassy was granted by the London County Council as local planning authority on October 4, 1956, after consulting the Royal Fine Art Commission. The Commission's Annual Report for that year states
It was one of the conditions in the architectural competition for a new American Embassy to occupy the west side of Grosvenor Square that the existing scale must be preserved, and the winning design was accepted by the Commission".House adjourned at a quarter past seven o'clock.
