§ 89. Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that belts studded with brass nails and spikes are being used increasingly in attacks of violence; and if he will take steps to prohibit the production and sale of these and make it an offence for them to be worn.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThere is no evidence of any recent increase in the use of studded belts in crimes of violence in the Metropolitan Police District, and the number of cases reported is very small. There has, however, been some increase this year in the number of persons charged with possessing studded belts as offensive weapons. In view of the fact that the existing law is well able to deal with this, I am not convinced of the need for extra powers.
