§ Mr. de Freitasasked the Minister of Aviation whether he is aware that the Boeing 707 is a particularly noisy aircraft, and that three Boeing 707 movements are scheduled each night between 9 p.m. and 7.30 a.m. at London Airport; and whether he will prevent this type of aircraft scheduling movements during the night until it has developed a silencer.
§ Mr. SandysI am aware that the earlier version of the Boeing 707 makes a good deal of noise, but this is being reduced by means of silencers and flying procedures agreed with the airlines. With the introduction of by-pass engines, of which the Rolls-Royce Conway is the first example, there should be further improvement. Under present arrangements no jet aircraft are scheduled to land or take off at night; i.e. between about 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. However, permission has occasionally to be given for delayed aircraft to arrive or depart during these hours.
