§ 26. Mr. Shepherdasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what progress has been made towards the setting up of decimal standards in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. BarberAs my hon. Friend may be aware, a Committee of the British144W Association for the Advancement of Science is at present conducting an inquiry into the metric system, including the desirability and practicability of a change-over to a decimal currency system in this country, and the adoption of a system of decimal weights and measures. It would be premature to take any decisions in this field until the results of this inquiry are available.
