§ Sir F. Markhamasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will consider taking steps to amend Section 57 of the Local Government Act, 1933, so as to permit citizens living within three miles of a local government area to stand for county or district council elections in that area.
§ Sir K. JosephThe qualification of candidates for election to membership of county, county borough and county district councils is at present based on residence or the ownership or occupation of property in the local government area concerned. My right hon. Friend does not think that it should be extended further.
