HC Deb 30 April 1959 vol 604 c162W
Mrs. McLaughlin

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what sites he has considered as possible alternatives to Belfast Airport.

Mr. Watkinson

I told the House on 5th February, 1958, that I had decided, after a number of possible sites had been surveyed, that a suitable alternative to Nutts Corner could be provided only at an unjustifiable cost. At that time the R.A.F. Station at Aldergrove could not be considered for civil use, but my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Air has recently agreed, in the light of a reappraisal of military plans, that a study should be made of the possibility of joint use of Aldergrove. This study is now being carried out.
