HC Deb 28 April 1959 vol 604 cc116-7W
Sir J. Hutchison

asked the Minister of Defence whether he will take steps to release from military service teachers who have already been called up who have obtained first, second or third class honours in any subject and who have satisfactorily completed an approved course of teacher training.

Mr. Sandys

Men completing teacher training in 1959 or later, who take approved employment in secondary schools, will not be called up for National Service. It would not, I am afraid, be practicable to arrange for the general release of such teachers who are now in the forces. The numbers involved are very small and they are mostly engaged on essential educational duties in the Services.
