HC Deb 27 April 1959 vol 604 cc91-2W
94. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a further statement on the Report of the Committee on Grassland Utilisation.

Mr. Godber

Consideration has been given to those sections of the Report which were of immediate importance for the Annual Review. These principally concerned ploughing grants, the silo subsidy and subsidies for fertilisers.

After careful consideration of the Committee's recommendations my right hon. Friend is satisfied that we should not change the general principles on which the ploughing grants and silo subsidy schemes are based. He proposes to give further consideration to the question of a subsidy on potash when the report of the Monopolies Commission on fertilisers is available.

Other recommendations in the Report involve a great deal of expert study and I cannot say when my right hon. Friend will be able to make a statement about them.
