HC Deb 27 April 1959 vol 604 c96W
103. Dr. Stross

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware of the difficulties in finding a sufficient number of physicians and surgeons to fill temporary posts in the Colonial Territories; whether he has noted the scheme devised between Great Ormond Street Hospital and Makerere College, by which one registrar after another follows on secondment in regular sequence; and what steps he intends to take to supply the needs of the colonies.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I am well aware of the difficulties and have been very glad to welcome the assistance afforded by Great Ormond Street to Makerere College. Arrangements of this kind are not applicable to the general needs of the Colonies which are for non-specialist doctors, but every effort is made to foster liaison between teaching hospitals here and overseas.
