HC Deb 23 April 1959 vol 604 c63W
65. Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many prosecutions have been brought under the Litter Act, 1958; and how many of these were in towns or rural areas, respectively.

Mr. J. N. Browne

Between 7th August, 1958, when the Litter Act came into force, and 28th February, 1959, there were 316 prosecutions in Scotland for offences against the Act.

The information my right hon. Friend has does not distinguish between prosecutions for offences in towns and for offences in rural areas, but 278 of the prosecutions were before burgh courts, and 12 and 26 before sheriff and justice of the peace courts, respectively.
