HC Deb 23 April 1959 vol 604 cc62-3W
64. Mr. Iremonger

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations have been made to the Metropolitan Police concerning the disturbance to the public caused by amplified music and chimes employed by ice cream vendors; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. R. A. Butler

The Commissioner informs me that representations are made to the Metropolitan Police from time to time on this matter, and that the police do all that is possible to prevent cause for complaint. Many local authorities have made byelaws making it an offence to operate an amplifier in a street so as to cause a nuisance.
