HC Deb 21 April 1959 vol 604 cc26-7W
57. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he is aware of the confusion which has arisen among members of local authorities regarding the minimum selling price of pre-war council houses; what is the basis on which the price is fixed; and if he will make a statement on the subject.

Mr. H. Brooke

The minimum selling price of pre-war council houses was fixed by Circular 64/52, issued on the 26th August, 1952, at 20 years purchase of the net annual rent of the house. This was intended to mean the rent as it was at that date, and has been so understood by local authorities generally.
