HC Deb 21 April 1959 vol 604 c28W
66. Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will now give an assurance to Mr. Kanyama Chiume, Member of the Nyasaland Legislative Council, that he will be immune from arrest in the event of his returning to Nyasaland to give evidence to the Devlin Commission.

Mr. J. Amery

No. The Chairman of the Commission has recently made a Press announcement in this country that the Commission will hear evidence in the United Kingdom. This will provide Mr. Chiume with an opportunity to be heard, if the Commission wish to call him.
