HC Deb 20 April 1959 vol 604 cc1-2W
47. Mr. Hastings

asked the Minister of Health what percentage of nurses employed in the hospitals under his direction failed to react to the tuberculin test; what percentage of such nurses have undergone B.C.G. vaccination; and what steps he is taking to impress upon all student nurses the desirability of both test and vaccination when required.

Mr. Walker-Smith

I regret that the information asked for in the first part of the Question is not available. In 1949 a scheme was introduced for the B.C.G. vaccination of hospital nursing staff and medical students, and last year this was extended to all the hospital staff at special risk. Explanatory leaflets are provided for issue to the staff concerned, and hospital authorities have recently been reminded of the importance of this scheme.
